My Copenhagen: Designers at Scoop

It won’t be news to hear that Scandi style is, as always, leading the pack when it comes to the next big thing in fashion. That’s why we simply couldn’t resist a catch up with the Copenhagen natives who’ll be joining us at Scoop this season.

Scoop is a truly international show and we’re pleased to welcome designers from all over the world each season. It won’t be news to hear that Scandi style is, as always, leading the pack when it comes to the next big thing in fashion. That’s why we simply couldn’t resist a catch up with the Copenhagen natives who’ll be joining us at Scoop this season.

Starting with a new face at Scoop, we asked Cecilie Copenhagen’s Jakob Mernøe about his favourite place in the Danish capital, and true to the season, he shared his summer plans: “this summer, I’m spending most of my time exploring the urban area of Refshaløen. It’s sort of an industrial island, with lots of cool, relaxed and unexplored areas.” Like so many of our designers, it’s the atmosphere that inspires Jakob here, “it’s such a chilled-out area with a great view of Copenhagen across the canal, but you can still enjoy the hustle and bustle of being in a big city”.

Of his career in fashion so far, Jakob says he is all “self-taught”. Having been with Cecilie Copenhagen for six years, he says “travelling, working with different people, and pooling ideas and creativity have all been an education for me”.

Continuing on to tell us a little more about Cecilie’s SS20 collection, Jakob says “we’re really excited  about this collection and showing it at Scoop.” Elaborating on this, he tells us, “This is a big step for us, in terms of showing the fashion industry where we’re going as a label”. Onto the clothes, themselves, we can expect “beautiful, strong colours and an innovative new take in the classic Cecilie print”.

Designer and creative director at her own eponymous label, Dea Kudibal is both a natural artist and savvy business woman.

Telling us about the city that inspires her work, Dea tells us that she has not one, but three favourites spots. Her first is the Copenhagen Botanical Garden of which she says, “I absolutely love that place in springtime when all the flowers are in bloom. I always find a lot of inspiration there”.

She continues, “I often visit the Charlottenborg Art Museum, in the heart of Copenhagen, which is also a haven for ideas and inspiration.” Dea’s third and final spot is the Copenhagen Citadel. She tells us, “the Citadel has so much history and some beautiful Japanese cherry trees, which never fail to make me happy”.

Moving on to the Dea Kudibal label, Dea tells us, “the collection I’ll be showing at Scoop is our new, amazing SS20 collection, called The Artist. The Artist collection is made up of our signature stretch silks with the addition of casual corduroy and chambrays for a feminine, summer-y feel. This season expect to see lots of prints inspired by nature and animals”.
